This is the crazy quilt block I showed you last post. I removed the "O MY" from the little tag and restitched it to say "Quilt". At this point, I still had no idea how I was going to embellish this piece or what I wanted it to say......
It started taking on a life of its own, and I realized that I was combining vintage with new fabric. The heart quilt piece is vintage and rather worn and torn......I thought of how quilts were once made because they used pieces of clothing that were no longer wearable and pieced them together to make bed covers.
I wonder that they didn't lie in bed some quiet night and remember where those clothes had been and what they saw. I thought of the stories each piece could tell, much like our children/family witnessing days of our lives....if quilts could talk, what interesting stories could they tell?
Perhaps that is why I am drawn to the "cutter quilt", the one that is no longer useful, all its life has been used up......but enough pieces rescued to live a little longer another life.........Where have they been? Whom have they kept warm? Whom have they comforted? Whom have they lulled to sleep? What tears did they dry? What laughter did they share? How sentimental is this? Don't laugh at me.......just thinking, 'tis all.......
I got interrupted by Mother's Day festivities. I will show you the completed piece next post. I think I may be getting braver and adding a little more activity to the piece. There you have it. Enjoy.
